NBLC Recap: February 12th

All the action from a high-scoring two-game Tuesday in the NBL Canada.

Three Wayne McCullough three-pointers gave the Moncton Magic a four-point half-time lead after a close first half against the Sudbury Five. Their lead reached seven points early in the fourth quarter, but not long after Sudbury tied the scores. After three lead changes between the two sides, ten unanswered points from Sudbury gave them a nine-point lead in the final minute.

Three of Moncton’s players reached the twenty-point plateau, but with not enough time left in the game, they were resigned to the loss and their win streak broken. Maurice Jones had an outstanding 41 points and Cory Dixon totalled 21 points and 12 rebounds off the bench for Sudbury as they take down the league leaders 136-128.

The St. John’s Edge had an early ten-point lead over the visiting KW Titans, who promptly responded, making it a two-point game early in the second quarter and a three from Damon Lynn gave them the half-time lead.

The Edge stepped up their defence and short-range shooting to take another ten-point lead in the third quarter, and in the final period the Titans finally put the game to bed, scoring 39 points and finishing off the game with 15 points to make the final scoreline 123-109 in their favour.

Olu Ashaolu had 29 points and 10 rebounds for the losing St. John’s Edge, while the Titans saw the biggest impact from bench players Ashton Smith (25 points) and Tramar Sutherland (32 points) as they pick up an important win at this crucial stage in the season.
