Know Your Team: Kevin Ware & Josiah Moore

This season, the London Lightning's roster Kevin Ware consists of two players with similar backgrounds, but with differing levels of NBL Canada experience.

Kevin Ware

6’2

Guard

From Conyers, Georgia

An all-state first team honouree and top 100 prospect while playing for Rockdale County, Ware joined the Louisville Cardinals in 2011. A team mate of Gourgi Dieng and Mangok Mathiang, he made headlines in his sophomore year. After sustaining injury in the quarter finals of the NCAA Division 1 tournament, Ware was forced to sit out the rest of the tournament, which Louisville went on to win.

He then transferred to the Georgia State Panthers. In his first season, he was named MVP of the Sun Belt Tournament. He also made it to the third round of the final NCAA Tournament after the Panthers beat third-seeded Baylor by one point, but went no further after a loss to Xavier.

After posting career-best stats in his final season - 11.6 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.1 assists in 30 starts - Ware turned professional, signing with Brno in the Czech Republic. He averaged 17.8 points, 7.4 rebounds and 3.9 assists in 17 starts for the team, before finishing off the season with Karhu in Finland.

After appearing in eight games for Faros in Greece, he made the move to the NBL Canada, signing with the Lightning for the 2018-19 season. With an average of 11.3 points in his first 23 games for the Lightning, starting in 20, he has been one of the biggest additions to the team and one of their biggest impact players in the 2018-19 season.

Josiah Moore

Guard

From Oakville, Ontario

A state champion and top 100 prospect in his senior year at Norcross, Moore was recruited to the Nebraska Cornhuskers, for whom he first played in 2011. The following season he transferred to the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles, appearing in 33 games his first season for his new team.

In his junior year, he started in seven of 29 games and averaged 8.8 points and 4.8 rebounds, his best in all of his NCAA career. At the end of his time with Tennessee Tech he had averaged of 7.3 points and 3.8 rebounds.

In his first year as a professional, he returned to his homeland, joining the Niagara River Lions. Playing 37 games, eight of which he started, he averaged 4.3 points and 2.9 rebounds on the season.

After a tumultuous second season, where he went back and forth between the River Lions and the Halifax Hurricanes - and saw his playing time cut as a result - Moore signed with the Lightning in 2018, and went on to become a big part of their rotation. He had his best results for London on February 6th, 2019, when he posted 13 points and 6 rebounds against the Windsor Express.
