NBLC Recap: February 27th
Wednesday night in the NBL Canada saw two contrasting games take place on the east coast.
Taking advantage of some slack early shooting from the Halifax Hurricanes, the Saint John Riptide led by ten points at the end of the first quarter. The Hurricanes then closed the gap in the second quarter and, finding their rhythm from the three-point line, took the lead and went on increase their advantage, which reached as high as 18 points in the fourth quarter.
Three Riptide players scored in double digits, but that would not be enough to defend home court. With 20 points from Mike Poole and 47 from their bench players, Halifax picked up their seventh straight win, 98-82, over Saint John.
The KW Titans faced off the Cape Breton Highlanders in a tight game at the Centre 200, where the scores were tied after two quarters.
The Highlanders were able to break away from their visitors in the third, where a surge from close range saw them take a double-digit lead. The Titans themselves went into the lead in the fourth, and the lead changed hands six times, when the Highlanders made it a multi-possession game and prevented the Titans from putting together scoring runs, ensuring the win.
Akeem Ellis finished with 31 points and 11 rebounds for the Titans, who also saw 24 from Ed Horton, but that would not be enough to get the road win. All five Highlanders starters finished in double digits, led by Deshaunt Walker with 23 and Chris Johnson with 22, as they snap their losing streak with a 112-108 win.
