Highlanders Bid Farewell to Bruce Massey
The time for NBL Canada fans to marvel at Bruce Massey's offensive prowess is over, for now at least, as the Cape Breton Highlanders have announced he has signed with BC Odessa in Ukraine.
He had previously been in negotiations with a Lebanese team in January, but remained in the NBL Canada.
Massey's contribution to the Highlanders this season can not be understated - his 23.7 average points per game were a big factor in Cape Breton reaching the highest league standing in their history and ranked second in all of the league. He was also in the top five in assists and steals.
His efforts have made him one of the leading candidates for MVP in his second season in both the team and the league. The team will now have to make their push for a playoff place without him.
The Highlanders have a number of players they can look to to fill in for Massey; including Jamal Reynolds, one of the league's leading rebounders, Deshaunt Walker, who has averaged 13.8 points per game so far, and can now look to Chris Johnson and Olu Famutimi to fulfil their true potentials.
Massey has been listed as inactive by the Highlanders, meaning the option of him returning to the team at a later date is available.
