NBLC Recap: February 13th

Both of the NBL Canada's Wednesday night games were unpredictable and came down to the final moments.

The Saint John Riptide took an early double-digit lead at the Harbour Station against the St. John's Edge, who quickly responded in the second quarter, closing the gap to just one point at half time. TJ Maston led the Riptide in re-growing their lead when the game resumed, but down the stretch the Edge tied the scores after a ten-point unanswered run, and then took a three-point lead.

The Riptide's three-point and free-throw shooters remained calm in the game's most high-pressure moments, helping them to see out the win by 94 points to 91. Junior Cadougan led the Edge in the loss with 25 points, while Desmond Lee had 21. For the victorious Riptide, meanwhile, Maston had a game-high 26 with double-doubles coming from Frank Bartley (16 points, 10 rebounds) and Bryce Washington (10 points, 11 rebounds).

Making two-thirds of their field goal attempts in the first quarter, the Windsor Express were in the driver's seat, only for the visiting Sudbury Five to then take control, leaving the scores even at the half. Sudbury then led throughout the third quarter and much of the fourth, when the Express caught fire - putting up fifteen unanswered points and going back in front with fifteen seconds left.

Two last-minute threes from Braylon Rayson - Sudbury's top scorer with 29 points - would not be enough for the Five, who saw their win steak snapped at the hands of the Windsor Express. Three Windsor players scored over twenty points in the game - Chris Jones (26 points), Ryan Anderson (24 points) and DeAndre Thomas (22 points) - as part of their 119-114 win over Sudbury.
