NBLC Recap: February 10th

Four NBL Canada games that followed a similar pattern were seen all over the map on Sunday.

Glen Davis gave the St. John's Edge a lead after the first quarter, but afterwards the Halifax Hurricanes took over from the field, taking and maintaining a double-digit lead in the second half. Davis finished with 22 points, while Junior Cadougan added 20 and Obinna Oleka had both 14 points and rebounds for the Edge, who failed to catch-up to their hosts. Mike Poole was the stand-out with 31 points for the Hurricanes, who finished on top 104-98.

The KW Titans led from start to finish when they hosted the Cape Breton Highlanders, taking their biggest lead of the game, 17 points, in the first quarter.

Cape Breton saw 53 points from their bench players - Charles Strowbridge had his second double digit game with 15 points in his second appearance for the Highlanders - but as a team, a lacklustre showing on offence would let them down.

With 26 points, Ashton Smith played the leading part in the Titan's offensive showing, spurring them on to victory 101-91. The Highlanders fell to third in the Atlantic Division following their loss and the win from the Hurricanes, who move up to second as a result.

After a close first quarter, the Moncton Magic caught fire from close range and built a bigger and bigger lead over the Saint John Riptide, which got as high as 38 points in the game. Despite 22 points from Frank Bartley, the Riptide lagged behind on their visit to the Avenir Centre.

Corey Allmond led all on the floor with 24 points, while Trey Kell had 17 points off the bench in his first appearance for the Magic as they took down the Riptide by 111 points to 76.

After outscoring the Windsor Express 44-17 in the first quarter at the Gardens, the London Lightning had enough breathing space in this Central Division match-up, and staying on course meant they did not have to look back from then on.

Chris Jones was outstanding with 32 points for the Express, who saw 21 from one of their starters, Ryan Anderson, and a bench player, Anthony Ottley. Meanwhile, a strong showing from London's starting five, who all finished scoring in double digits, led by Mo Bolden with 21. London pick up their third straight win, 132-109, over the Express.
