NBLC Recap: February 7th
Three-game February 7th will likely go down as the most dramatic, tense and exciting day in all of this NBL Canada season.
The Island Storm had an early ten-point lead, but it didn't take long for the visiting St. John's Edge to close the gap, which they did behind an outstanding performance from Glen Davis, who had 29 points and 10 rebounds in the game.
At the end of a tight final quarter, Guillaume Boucard put the Storm up by two, only for Junior Cadougan to do the same for the Edge, sending the game into overtime. With thirteen seconds left in the extra period, Alex Campbell tied the scores with a three, after which Junior Cadougan put the Edge back in front with a layup and Malik Story missed a final game-winning chance for the Storm.
Campbell had 20 points off the Storm bench, while Boucard had 21 and Sampson Carter led the team with 23, but all of this would not be enough to get the win, which went to the Edge, 115-113.
The KW Titans were in the driver's seat for the first quarter at the Sudbury Community Centre, only for the Sudbury Five to then take over in the second and third periods, which led to a closely contested and heated fourth quarter.
Braylon Rayson led the charge with 22 points for Sudbury, who also saw 46 points from their bench, while all of the Titans' starters scored in double digits, with double-doubles posted by Flenard Whitfield (21 points, 11 rebounds) and Derek Hall (20 points, 10 rebounds).
Sudbury broke away from the Titans down the stretch, taking a seven-point lead, and while the Titans showed great composure from outside the arc, their three-point shooting could only get them to within one point. At the final buzzer Sudbury were the victors and their 116-115 win will see them stay above the Titans in the Central Division.
Leading by 15 at the start of the fourth quarter, the London Lightning looked to have clinched victory against the Windsor Express. However, Windsor stepped up their game on both ends, closing the gap, and a late three-pointer from Ryan Anderson sent the game to overtime.
In overtime, Windsor took an early and decisive lead, only for London to fight back - a three from Mo Bolden and Kevin Ware and Xavier Moon meant a second overtime period was needed, where this time London had the advantage.
Horace Wormely tied the scores with a three with fifteen seconds left on the clock. Xavier Moon made a three on the other end and Kirk Williams wrested possession from Angelo Griffis, finally bringing the game to a close.
Windsor saw 35 points from bench player Chris Jones and starter Juan Pattillo, who also had 16 rebounds, while eight of London's players reached the double digit mark - Marcus Capers led the team in scoring with 25 and Kevin Ware posted 23 points and 10 rebounds - as they keep their playoff push alive with a 147-144 win.
