NBLC Recap: January 2nd

This Saturday line-up in the NBL Canada is one that two teams and their fans will not want to have to go through again:

The London Lightning took an early eleven-point lead on their visit to the Scotiabank Centre to take on their biggest Atlantic Division rivals, the Halifax Hurricanes. Garrett Williamson would go on to finish with a team-high 24 points while Kevin Ware put up 20 points and 10 rebounds.

Halifax's attempt at a comeback did not look serious until the fourth quarter, where they went from eight down to tie the scores mid-way through the period, and then take a one-point lead with two minutes to go. London kept the scores tight, but a late layup from Rhamel Brown would be the deciding play in this game.

With 26 points from Mike Poole, 19 off the bench from Malcolm Duvivier and Brown putting up 17 points and 13 rebounds, Halifax came away with the win by 103 points to 101.

The KW Titans hosted the Sudbury Five in a high-scoring affair where every starter for both team finished in double digits. The Titans shot 53% from three-point territory, a big factor in their going into the lead by 27 points in the third quarter. Sudbury tried to mount a comeback in the fourth, but with the Titans still finding the most scoring opportunities, it proved too big a target for them to reach.

Sudbury's trio of Braylon Rayson, Jaylen Bland and Travis Releford all reached the twenty-point mark, but the Titans saw 44 points from their bench, a double-double from Derek Hall (11 points, 13 rebounds) and a game-high 26 points from Flenard Whitfield as part of their twenty-point victory.

Despite their loss, Sudbury remain third in the Atlantic Division, where it was all change at the bottom again, as the Titans replace the Lightning and move back into the playoff zone once more.
