NBLC Recap: January 30th & 31st

There were three NBL Canada games in two days, one of them a tight-knit thriller, the rest more resounding victories:

For most of the way through it looked like the Moncton Magic were going to run away with the win, especially after outscoring the London Lightning 24-9 in the third quarter. London, however, went on a rampant scoring run in the fourth to close the gap which saw seven of their players score 10+ points.

A late three from Kevin Ware sent the game to overtime. Moncton gained a late advantage after a back-and-forth supplementary period, but another late three from London's Jaylen Babb-Harrison meant another overtime was needed. Moncton were finally able to put the game to bed after a nine-point run, with the final score 119-112 in their favour.

On Friday, eighteen unanswered second quarter points from the St. John's Edge gave them a commanding lead over the Halifax Hurricanes, who saw 18 points and 8 rebounds from both Terry Thomas and Mike Poole, as well as 36 bench points between Jordan Washington and Joel Kindred, but unable to stop the Edge's offence, they could not find a way back in this one.

Glen Davis led St. John's with 30 points, while Desmond Lee had 23 and Junior Cadougan put up 22 as they take down Halifax 103-95 and improve their position at the top of the Central Division.

A 14-point run in the first half gave the Sudbury Five a commanding lead over the KW Titans, in a lacklustre showing from the home team where they made less than a third of all field goal attempts. Flenard Whitfield put up 21 points off the bench for the Titans, but with a weak game plan and no sense of urgency they were ultimately resigned to the loss.

Sudbury saw 28 points from Braylon Rayson, 27 from Jaylen Bland and double-doubles from Isaiah Johnson and Cory Dixon on the way to their fourth straight win, 105-89 over the Titans.
