NBLC Recap: January 29th

Both of Tuesday's NBL Canada games could not have been more different:

With the St. John's Edge putting in an uncharacteristically lacking show on offence, they left the door open for the Halifax Hurricanes to dominate. Despite St. John's holding Halifax to seven points in the third quarter and their bench players putting up a combined 32 points, the Hurricanes' rampant offence and strong defence

Every Hurricanes player made the score sheet, with Terry Thomas leading all with 23, as they ran home victors by 104 points to 70.

The Avenir Centre saw a far more evenly-matched game between the Moncton Magic and the visiting Saint John Riptide. Moncton had an early double-digit lead, but after a fight back from the Riptide, the average gap between the teams stood at five points.

Moncton saw Corey Allmond finish with 27 points, Billy White with 22 and though he did not make the score sheet, Denzell Taylor took care of the Magic's defence, finishing with 13 total rebounds. For the Riptide, Jeremiah Mordi had 12 points and rebounds, Frank Bartley had 23 points, but the stand-out was TJ Maston with 29 points and 18 total rebounds.

The lead went back and forth between the two in the final quarter, but after Moncton took a late four-point lead, Bartley made a three which closed the gap to one with a minute remaining. Billy White was able to push Moncton's lead back out to four, and being the more accurate team from the free-throw line, they were able to maintain their lead to the end.

With their third straight win, Moncton stay atop the Atlantic Division thanks to their 91-88 win over the Saint John Riptide.
