St. John's Edge

5’7

Guard

From Saginaw, Michigan

2xAll-NBLC

2017 Rookie of the Year

Maurice Jones may only be playing in his third NBL Canada season, but has already made a name for himself as one of the most dependable and dangerous offensive players in all of the league.

For two years, Jones was a starter for the USC Trojans, where he played alongside future Orlando Magic star Nikola Vucevic. In his freshman year, he played in the first round of the NCAA Division 1 tournament and was named to the Pac-12 All-Rookie Team.

Halfway through his college career he moved closer to home - Midland, Michigan - and joined the Northwood Timberwolves. In two seasons, he averaged 17.8 points, 6.1 assists and 4.4 rebounds and received conference first team honours in both years.

Straight out of his tenure with Northwood, he joined the Windsor Express, for whom he averaged 10.4 assists, 7.6 assists and 3.5 rebounds on his way to winning the 2017 Rookie of the Year award. In addition, he was the league's leader in assists and was named to the All-NBL Canada third team.

The following season, still with the Express, he was outstanding. Starting in every game and averaging 17.6 points per contest, he ended the season as the league's steals leader, was seventh overall for assists, the 11th overall scorer, 14th shooting from the field and 15th-best three-point shooter. His efforts earned him his second straight NBLC third team honour.

In the 2018 off-season, the St. John's Edge traded Grandy Glaze for Jones. After twenty games, seventeen of which he started, he averaged 15.4 points, 6.5 assists and 4.2 rebounds. He is third overall in the league for steals, fourth for assists and has one player of the week title to his name.

This season Jones has proved to be a great addition to the Edge, and throughout his time in the NBL Canada he has proved himself to be among the league's top performers and his stock will surely continue to rise as his career continues.
