NBLC Recap: January 27th
Sunday in the NBL Canada saw two games finish by the same margin, but the results had very different consequences:
After trailing the Windsor Express by nine points early on, the Cape Breton Highlanders went on to level the scores at half-time. With 13 points on perfect shooting in the third quarter, Tyrrell Tate helped Windsor respond and take a commanding double-digit lead, which despite the Highlanders' best efforts, this time they could not come back from.
Bruce Massey had 26 points for the Highlanders, with Jamal Reynolds putting up 15 points and 19 rebounds off the bench, but even that and the home advantage could not turn the game around for the Highlanders when they needed it.
Juan Pattillo led Windsor's scoring with 22 points, while Ryan Anderson had 20 along with 16 total rebounds, as all of the Express starters scored ten or more in one category en route to victory 107-103.
The newfound rivalry between the Sudbury Five and the London Lightning, playing at home, deepened on Sunday in a tight game from start to finish, with plenty of lead changes and no more than 10 points separating the two.
London saw 37 points from their bench players, with Mo Bolden and Garrett Williamson scoring over twenty points and Marcus Capers finishing with a double-double of 10 points and 13 rebounds. Leading Sudbury, meanwhile, were Travis Releford and Cory Dixon, who had 26 and 25 points respectively.
A nine point run down the stretch from Sudbury would prove to be decisive in this game, and despite London's continued efforts to turn it around, Sudbury kept finding scoring chances to keep their hold on the game alive. Sudbury took their third straight win 115-110, and move up to third in the Central Division while London move down to last place.
