NBLC Recap: January 24th

Both NBL Canada games on Thursday saw big numbers between teams that were hard to separate, so much so both went right down to the wire.

The Saint John Riptide got off to the best start, taking a double-digit lead towards the end of the first quarter and going on to a game-high twenty-point lead in the second. They saw 22 points from TJ Maston off the bench, 19 from starter Frank Bartley and double-doubles from Jeremiah Mordi (13 points, 10 rebounds) and Kemy Osse (10 points, 12 rebounds).

Their opponents, the Windsor Express, started to close the gap when the game resumed after half-time, and in the last ten seconds, DeAndre Thomas and Juan Pattillo would turn the whole game around and lift Windsor to victory. Pattillo led the team with 16 points and 12 total rebounds as well as leading them to the 91-88 win.

The Island Storm had to fight back after falling behind early at the Aud to the KW Titans, and after close-fought game throughout the last three quarters, a three-pointer from Tyler Scott tied the scores at the final buzzer and sent the game to overtime.

The Storm got the first points on the board in OT, but the Titans went back in front after five unanswered points. Scott made it a one-possession game from the line, only for Derek Hall to respond, also from the line, pushing the final gap to four points with the Titans finishing on top 137-133.

In this game, the Storm saw double-doubles from three of their starters; Sampson Carter (27 points, 11 rebounds), Guillaume Boucard (21 points, 10 rebounds) and Alex Campbell (15 points, 10 rebounds), as well as 23 points from Tyree White off the bench.

The victorious Titans, meanwhile, saw an amazing numbers from their bench: Flenard Whitfield had 20 points in as many minutes and Akeem Ellis finished with 28 points and 13 total boards. Four of their five starters finished in double digits as they snap their five-game losing streak at home.
