NBLC Recap: January 23rd

The Sudbury Five looked to end their unsuccessful run during their visit to the Harbour Station, but the Saint John Riptide proved to be difficult opponents in a game where the advantage seemingly kept changing from quarter to quarter.

Doing the most damage for the Riptide were their bench, who put up sixty points in the contest. TJ Maston alone led the team with 16 points and 8 total rebounds. Through a combination of accuracy from close-range and tough defence, they led at the end of the first and third quarters.

Sudbury came out firing in the final quarter, outscoring the Riptide 37 points to 29. Cory Dixon had seven unanswered points, giving Sudbury one of their biggest leads. Saint John kept closing the gap, but kept having their momentum broken.

Dixon had 17 points in the fourth alone, while Braylon Rayson had 13 as they both finished off proceedings with 34 points (with Rayson also grabbing 13 total rebounds) and Sudbury ended the game on top 108-101.

The Riptide remain fourth in the Atlantic Division despite the loss, the same spot in the Central Division Sudbury moved up to following their win.
