NBL Canada action rolls on in a three-game Saturday night:
Led by Braylon Rayson and Adam Blazek, the Sudbury Five dominated the first quarter against the KW Titans. Akeem Ellis and Ed Horton then combined in the second, where they put up 20 and 12 points respectively, to give the Titans the half-time lead. After a tight third period, a concentrated close-range effort from the Titans gave them their largest lead of the game, 19 points, and eventually emerged victorious by a scoreline of 132-114.
Sudbury saw 33 points from Braylon Rayson and 21 points and 7 rebounds from Devin Gilligan off the bench. Meanwhile, KW shot 52% from the field and had a 62 points in the paint, as well as dropping 18 threes and grabbing 51 total rebounds as a team.
Ed Horton had 30 points while Derek Hall scored 14 and grabbed 16 total rebounds in the game for the Titans, who topple Sudbury from the top of the Central Division after beating them 132-114.
Behind an early 12 points from Billy White, the Moncton Magic took an early lead over the St. John’s Edge, and then with Corey Allmond contributing a lot on offence, the Magic took their biggest lead of the game in the third, at 21 points. The Edge then responded, upping their defence and with a near-perfect showing in the field in the final quarter. They quickly turned the game around and scored their sixth straight win, 98-86.
White had 24 points and 10 rebounds, 22 points from Allmond, and Nick Evans was one rebound short of a double-double having already put up 15 points for the Magic.
The Edge saw a game-high 25 points from Desmond Lee, 20 from Glen Davis off the bench and a double-double (10 points, 16 rebounds) from Obinna Oleka.
The Saint John Riptide saw great work in the field early on from their starters, which lifted the team to lead Cape Breton 51-37 at half-time. The Cape Breton Highlanders struck back in the second half, with similarly good work in the paint from Aaron Redpath (16 total points), Kenny Jones (15 total points) and Jamal Reynolds off the bench (A team-high 18 points).
The Riptide put up 11 points in just over a minute to make it a one-point game with 10 seconds left. After two made free-throws from Kenny Jones, Kemy Osse missed a final three-point attempt to salvage the game for Saint John. Cape Breton get their seventh win in a row, 97-94, over the Riptide.
