Know Your Team: Yohanny Dalembert

Sudbury Five

6'8

Forward

From Port-au-Prince, Haiti

2018 NBLC Champion

Yohanny Dalembert got into basketball almost by accident, but following the successes he has had in his still-young career, a very happy accident - something his teams, fans and he himself would agree with.

Following the 2010 Haiti Earthquake Dalembert's family moved to Phildalephia, with the help of his half-brother Samuel. It wasn't until his junior year at Lower Merion High School when he took up basketball, but it didn't take long for him to get to grips with the game. He went on to lead the team to their first state championship since the days of their best-known alumna, Kobe Bryant.

Dalembert then joined the James Madison Dukes in 2013. Impressing in first season, he was made a starter the following year, averaging 11.4 points & 6.0 rebounds per game and was also named All-Colonial Athletic Association third team. He shot over 50% in his last three season with the Dukes, and though his final season was limited by injury, he still finished as the team leader in blocks.

He first played professionally in the NBL Canada, signing with the London Lightning in 2017. He started in four games, but was largely a rotation player, finishing with averages of 1.9 points and 2.1 rebounds per game on 54% field shooting. Still, he played his part in London capturing their fourth NBLC championship title.

Dalembert signed with the Sudbury Five in December 2018, great news for NBL Canada fans. As an intriguing prospect with plenty of potential, it would be great to see him continue to grow and flourish in the NBLC.
