In Karama Jawaro, the Halifax Hurricanes have sourced big talent from an unlikely place.
Jawaro captained the Norwegian team at the 2011 Under-20 European Championship, where he was also team's top scorer (16.9 points, 8.0 rebounds and 2.4 steals per game.)
He also represented Norway at the 2013 Summer Universiade, where the team finished in 13th place, and he recorded 8.2 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game en route to winning the silver medal with Norway at the 2018 European Championship for Small Countries.
His early performances for Norway caught the eye of the NCCU Eagles, for whom he went on to play for four seasons. Mostly on the bench in his first two, he became the leading power forward in the last two. He saw his best results in senior year, with 7.6 points and 6.4 rebounds per game, and was named to the All-Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference second team.
Jawara began his professional career with Transilvania Cluj in Romania, later making the move to Greece and playing for both Apollon Patras and Machites.
He played in Spain during the 2017-18 season, first with Xuventude in Spain, averaging 12.0 points, 9.8 rebounds and shooting 51% from the field in 16 games. He then moved to Palma, for whom he finished the season averaging 7.2 points and 4.7 rebounds per game.
Just looking at his numbers, his wide-reaching experience and obvious work ethic, it's no wonder why the Hurricanes are keen to have Jawara on their books.
