NBLC Recap: December 14th

Basketball fans' attentions turned to the east coast on Friday, where two games featuring some of the NBL Canada's top teams took place.

With good numbers from their starters, the Halifax Hurricanes came out on top after a tight start to their game against the Moncton Magic. Corey Allmond then hit back for the Magic, helping give them a double-digit lead in the second quarter, renewing their vigour in the game.

Allmond finished with 23 points, three behind the 26 scored by Billy White, who also had 11 rebounds. He was one of two Magic players to record a double-double along with Doug Herring Jr, who had 12 points and 10 rebounds. Halifax, meanwhile, saw 18 points from Joel Kindred and 13 off the bench from Malcolm Duvivier.

The Hurricanes closed the gap ahead of the final quarter, but hitting consistently from outside the arc Moncton were able to keep their grasp on the game, going on to secure the big win over Halifax, 105-96.

The St. John's Edge took the lead early on against the Island Storm and built on it as the game carried on. The Storm's front court duo of Russell Byrd and Sampson Carter, who had 51 points between them, could not do enough to shake off St. John's dominance in this game.

Maurice Jones was once again the standout for the Edge, putting up 23 points and 10 rebounds. This wasn't the only double-double for the edge: in a great showing off the bench, Obinna Oleka scored 12 and grabbed 11 rebounds. With good bench production and consistent scoring, the Edge ran out winners at home, 112-104 over the Island Storm.
