NBLC Recap: December 2nd

The NBL Canada put on a single game on sunday night - but what a game it was.

Gabe Freeman had an amazing game, scoring 24 points and grabbing 15 total rebounds for the Halifax Hurricanes, who also saw 20 points from Joel Kindred and 45 from their bench players. The team’s high-scoring efforts saw them lead the St. John’s Edge by 21 early in the fourth quarter.

Determined St. John’s, however, responded with 44 points in the final period – 18 of them coming from Maurice Jones off the bench, taking his final total to 30. Fouled making a layup, Jones made the subsequent free-throw gave the Edge the lead with just over 30 seconds remaining.

Freeman gave the lead back to Halifax with a three, only for Keith Wright to put the Edge up by one with a single second left on the clock. Halifax called timeout, and when they came out of it, on the very last play of the game, Kedar Edwards found Tyrone Watson in the paint, who layed the ball up and in.

Halifax probably would not have thought they would have to fight after being up by so much, but they showed great resilience to snatch victory by a single point in a dramatic end to this one.
