NBLC Recap: December 1st
An action-packed Saturday night, with eight teams taking to the courts across Canada, had many fans on the edge of their seats.
The Moncton Magic survived a scare from the St. John’s Edge, who led by as much as eight point at numerous points in the game. An eight-point unanswered run from Moncton late in the third would prove to be the turning point in the game, as the Magic were able to re-assert themselves and see out the win.
The Edge saw a good performance from Chadrack Lufile, with eleven points off the bench, while Keith Wright notched up 14 points and rebounds. Billy White was the leading scorer with 18 points for Moncton, who keep their unbeaten run alive after a five-point win over St. John's.
The Sudbury Five got revenge on the Windsor Express for breaking their unbeatean streak days earlier. Shooting over 50% from the field and with 24 points from Horace Wormley, the Express led for much of the way, but Sudbury’s shooting – both in and outside the arc – saw them reduce their late ten-point deficit and complete an unexpected comeback, winning by a final score of 116-112. Braylon Rayson led all scorers in this one with 28 points, closely followed by his team mate Travis Releford with 26.
The Island Storm opened with 37 points against the London Lightning’s 22 at the end of the first quarter. Putting up a game-high 27 points, Xavier Moon did his all to try and turn the game around for London. The Lightning went in front just after half time, but the Storm re-took the lead after nine unanswered points and maintained their control on the game behind great inside looks from Robbie Robinson and Sampson Carter, who finished with 26 points.
The Storm had great bench production, with 59 points coming from their substitutes – 22 of them from Tyler Scott – lifting them to a 123-111 win over the Lightning.
After a close opening quarter, the Halifax Hurricanes started to break away from the KW Titans. Lifting the Hurricanes in a big way was Gabe Freeman, who scored 27 points on 11 of 20 from the field, and was one rebound away from a double-double. The KW Titans had five players score in double digits in what was an otherwise lacklustre performance, which saw them fall 100-88 to Halifax.
