A new NBL Canada player for a new NBL Canada team, Cory Dixon finds himself in all-new territory in his still-young but impressive basketball career.
Dixon started out on the roster for the Northwestern State Demons in NCAA Division 1. However, he left the team after seeing limited playing time, then spent a redshirt season with both the Collin Cougars and the Hutchinson Blue Dragons.
He then landed with Division 2 team the New Orleans Privateers, where he saw more time on the court and more success. He became the team's starting small forward in his senior year, and averaged 11.1 points and 6.4 rebounds at the end of his two years with the Privateers.
Turning professional in 2014, Dixon tried out with NBA D-League teams Austin Spurs and Erie Bayhawks, but instead found more success further from home. Becoming a starter for the Plymouth Raiders in the British Basketball League, Dixon would average 18.8 points, 8.4 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game in two seasons.
After starting the 2017-18 season with Limburg in Belgium, Dixon returned to the UK, signing with the London Lions. Among his highlights, he averaged 15.3 points, 7.7 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game, was named Player of the Month in January 2018 and reached the BBL playoff finals, where the Lions would lose to the Leicester Riders.
Dixon's numbers, so far, are an undeniably big indicator that the Sudbury Five have snapped up a big talent who will no doubt do great things for them in their debut season.
