NBLC Daily: November 22nd
Seven teams in action in four games across two nights as the new NBL Canada season resumed in the mid-week.
Despite the Windsor Express starting five all scoring in double digits, they were no match for the firepower of the St. John’s Edge. The visitors from Newfoundland shot over 50% from the floor, made 20 three-pointers, and saw 21 points off the bench from both Jared Nickens and Todd Brown Jr, as they took down the Express by 113 points to 86.
Windsor’s woes continued into the next night – they led the KW Titans by five at half time, but the Titans began the third quarter with nine unanswered points to go into the lead and they went on to outscore the Express 56-39 in the second half.
Ashton Smith had a great second half for the Titans, going on to finish with a game-high 21 points, while his team mates Derek Hall and Julian Strings both had double-doubles. Juan Pattillo and Ryan Anderson both had 19 points for Windsor, but that would not be enough, the team getting their first win of the season was Kitchener-Waterloo, by a margin of 100-88.
The Sudbury Five took a fifteen-point lead over the London Lightning in the second quarter, but despite having the better looks in the paint, London could not regain the lead and were on the back foot for the whole game - despite AJ Gaines scoring 12 of his total 17 points in the final period of play.
Jaylen Bland had another great performance with 28 points, which included 6 threes, and Sudbury also saw 18 points off the bench from Grandy Glaze. Sudbury win their first-ever home game and keep their unbeaten record alive after a 112-107 defeat of the London Lightning.
A layup from Renaldo Dixon and a free-throw from Kemy Osse put the Saint John Riptide up by three at the end of an evenly-matched first half against the Halifax Hurricanes. In the third quarter, however, Halifax turned the game around and built a comfortable lead of eight.
Saint John saw a double-double from Brent Arrington and a game-high 20 points from rookie Chris Early, but that was eclipsed by 48 points from the Halifax bench, with Robinson Odoch Opong leading the team with sixteen.
