A great all-around player with a wide array of experience, Marvell Waithe has seen his stock rise dramatically after a head-turning NBL Canada debut season.
Waithe averaged 35 points, 12 rebounds and 3 blocks per game with the Laurier Golden Hawks, which saw him recruited to the Tallahassee Eagles, for whom he averaged 18.9 points and 9.0 rebounds per game in his second season. He then finally made it to NCAA Division 1, where he played two seasons with the Arkansas Razorbacks.
Turning professional in 2012, Waithe joined the Bakken Bears in Denmark. He averaged 16.6 points and 8.3 rebounds in 21 games and won the Basketligaen championship in his debut season. He then went on to play for three teams in the Mexican CIBACOPA league - Tijuana, Mazatlan and Tlaxcala. He was named MVP of the 2016 Finals.
Waithe then made the move to the NBL Canada in 2017. Starting the season with the Niagara River Lions, averaging 17.8 points per game, he made the move to the Moncton Magic, and went on to finish the season reaching the Atlantic Division finals.
In his first season in Canada he obviously made a big impression, as the London Lightning traded a key member of their team, Doug Herring Jr, to the Magic in exchange for Waithe. In doing so they have added a hard working, multi-talented and dependable front court player to their roster.
