Ashton Smith's career has gone from strength to strength - from big success in NCAA to honing his skills in a wide array of teams.
A three-time high school MVP and 2007 Ontario Basketball Association MVP with West Hill, Smith would go on to play for the IUP Crimson Hawks in Pennsylvania. He led the team in steals in freshman year, assists in his sophomore year and was second in scoring in junior year.
He started every game in last three years with IUP and averaged an NCAA career best of 18.2 points per game in his senior season, where he was also named Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference player of the year 2012. Smith remains to this day IUP’s all-time assists leader.
The 2013-14 NBL Canada season would be Smith's first as a professional, in which he played with both the Saint John Mill Rats and Mississauga Power. The following season he signed with the Brampton A's, playing in 36 games and averaging 6.5 points and 3.4 assists per game.
He stayed in Canada for the following season, but in a different league. He joined the Raptors 905 in the NBA G League, for whom he appeared in 24 games and averaged 2.5 points per game. After which, he joined Colombian team Bucaros de Bucaramga. Playing in the 2016 Liga Sudamericana, he scored 12 points on 71% of his two-pointer attempts against Trouville.
Smith split his 2017-18 season between German club VFL Bochum and the London Lightning back in NBL Canada. Spending the latter part of the season with London proved to be fruitful , as he was part of the championship winning team. Landing a contract with the KW Titans in the off-season, Smith find himself in yet another new location to bring his talents to.
