NBL Canada newcomer Sampson Carter brings with him plenty of attributes to be positive about, among them one highly coveted thing in basketball - NBA experience.
In 2008, Carter won the Tennessee state championship with the Ridgeway Roadrunners, the fourth in the team’s history, and was also named tournament and state MVP. He went to average 7.1 points and 4.2 rebounds per game in five years for the UMass Minutemen.
He then began club career in Portugal and Dominican Republic, playing for three teams in the space of one season. Returning to the USA, he was signed by the Memphis Grizzlies and appeared in six pre-season games for them, but didn't make the final team.
Carter then appeared for Caballeros de Culiacan in Mexico. Most recently, he played in the Philippines for Alab Pilipinas, which saw him compete in the ASEAN Basketball League, reaching the semi-finals and averaging 13.6 points and 9.3 rebounds per game.
His pedigree has made him one of the most exciting arrivals to the NBLC this season, and the Island Storm in particular will be hoping he the benefit of his wide-reaching experience will help lift the team.
