NBLC Daily: November 18th

A dramatic night in NBL Canada with four games where there was little, if anything, between the competing sides.

The Cape Breton Highlanders began the game against the Moncton Magic in the lead, but with the superior shooting – over 50% from the field, dropping 14 threes – Moncton quickly took control of the gameBruce Massey Jr had 31 points for the Highlanders, with 25 also coming from O’Louis McCullough off the bench, but neither of these would be enough. Moncton saw 28 points each from Jahii Carson and Isaiah Tate, as they keep their unbeaten record alive beating the Highlanders 118-110.

With double-doubles from Flenard Whitfeild and Derek Hall, the KW Titans would take a double-digit second quarter lead over the Sudbury Five. An eleven-point run from Sudbury would bring them back in the game, which would stay close to the finish.

Going down the stretch Sudbury took the lead, which was narrowed to one by the Titans, but two made free-throws from Travis Releford and a missed three from Akeem Ellis would seal the win for the Five. Braylon Rayson had a game-high 35 points for Sudbury, who get the win 115-112 over the Titans.

Double-doubles from the London Lightning’s AJ Gaines and Marcus Capers and a team-high 22 points from Diego Kapelan for the St. John’s Edge highlighted this back-and-forth encounter at the Gardens. St. John’s went from eight down to up by one with just over two minutes remaining in the game, but continuing their smart play in the paint, London re-took the lead in the remaining time and held off the Edge to emerge victorious, 107 to 103.

The Saint John Riptide closed a ten-point gap at the start of the fourth quarter to level the scores against the Island Storm with less than 1:30 to go. Brad States drew the foul and made one free-throw, and in the remaining seconds Kemy Osse missed a game-winning three attempt, and Jarrell Tate grabbed the rebound to seal the win for the Storm.

Robbie Robinson led all scorers with 20 points and also grabbed 10 rebounds for their Storm in their dramatic 96-95 win over the Riptide.
