Know Your Team: Horace Wormely
Windsor Express
5'6
Guard
From Pasadena, California
When Horace Wormely first hit the NBL Canada courts, the reaction of many an impressed and amazed spectator was, "Where did he come from?"
Wormely began playing basketball for PCC in his hometown of Pasadena, then moved cross-state to Costa Mesa to join the Vanguard Lions. In his freshman year, he made seventy three-pointers and was named to the conference team. At the end of junior year he averaged 13.6 points per game, but the remainder of his college career was hampered due to a number of injuries.
He began playing semi-professionally in the Drew League, then went on to play professional for the first time in 2009, when he joined the NBA D-League team, the Los Angeles D-Fenders. He averaged 6.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 3.8 assists in 43 games. After one season in the D-League, he returned to the Drew League.
Half-Colombian Wormely then got another chance at a professional contract in 2014, when he was signed to Patriotas de Boyaca in Colombia.
He would average 24.3 points per game in the season, and would also play for Boyaca in the Americas League, where he put on an impressive display against Tortamundos, scoring 28 points and dishing 8 assists. He remained in Colombia, going on to play for Aguilas de Tunja and later Gigantes de Guyana in Venezuela.
Wormely first played in NBL Canada in 2016, as a late signing for the Saint John Riptide. He quickly earned his place in the starting lineup, and the following season he would average 13.3 points per game, as well as being 4th overall in assists and in the top 20 in three point shooting. Womely started in 44 out of 44 games and showed great defensive work in the 2017-18 season for the Riptide.
The 2018-19 season will hopefully see Wormely put on a similarly spectacular show, this time for his second NBLC team, the Windsor Express.
