Regularly winning over crowds, seeing his best results and biggest successes while playing in NBL Canada, it's little wonder why Doug Herring Jr keeps coming back.
Herring played four years in NCAA Division 3 with the Utica Pioneers. He would become the team's all-time assists leader and was nominated for the Naismith Hall of Fame's Bob Cousy Award in his junior year.
After leaving Utica, Herring went on to play for Hudson Valley Kingz in APBL, averaging 31 points per game in his first season. After three years with the Kingz he made the move to NBL Canada, signing with the Saint John Mill Rats. He played 44 games for Saint John in the 2013-14 season and averaged 18 points per game.
In 2014, he signed for the Bristol Flyers in the UK, but his season was limited by injury. The following season he returned to Saint John. After a brief spell with Defensor Sporting in Uruguay, he returned the NBLC, this time playing for the London Lightning. Playing largely off the bench, he would go on to win the league championship with London.
Herring split the 2017-18 season between Orchies in France and his second stint with the Lightning. With the latter he saw his best end-of-season results since first joining the NBLC: 14.4 points, 6.7 assists and 4.7 rebounds per game.
He was the Lightning's assists leader and fourth across the whole league in scoring average. Most importantly, he and the team would both win their second consecutive NBL Canada championship.
One of the biggest deals of this year's off-season will see Herring join his third NBL Canada team, after Moncton traded for him in return for Marvell Waithe. This will give him a new home to dominate on the front court, to bring his teammate mentality, and with new fans to have warm to him.
