Know Your Team: Ta'Quan Zimmerman
Cape Breton Highlanders
6’2
Guard
From Waterbury, Connecticut
1xSixth Man of the Year
Ta'Quan Zimmerman's energy, work ethic and inside game that has seen him become one of the most talked-about NBL Canada imports are qualities that have been with him from the start of his basketball journey.
His 24 points per game average for Putnam Science Academy makes him the team's all-time leader. After leaving Putnam he was set to join the LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds, but was cut from the team after sustaining an injury.
After two months with the Southeastern Blackhawks in Burlington, Iowa, he was recruited to the Monroe Tribunes in Brighton, New York, where he averaged 10.1 points, 5.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists as their starting shooting guard.
He then made the move to Canada to play for the Thompson Rivers Wolfpack in Kaloomps, British Columbia. He was the team's second-highest scorer and number one three-point shooter in the 2013-14 season.
Afterwards, he turned professional and joined the Idaho Stampede in the NBA D-League, going on to average 4.3 points and 1.9 rebounds and assists for the Stampede.
In 2016 he joined the Halifax Hurricanes, becoming a solid bench presence for the team, averaging 9.9 points per game without a start. He built on this the next season, where his 11.3 average points per game would see him named NBL Canada Sixth Man of the Year.
Having established himself in NBL Canada, Zimmerman now has the chance to take his game to another level in the 2018-19 season, when he will be suiting up for the Cape Breton Highlanders.
