Desmond Lee's basketball career may be short, but has nonetheless produced a number of memorable moments, and recently has made a big impact for the St. John's Edge.
After two years with the NMJC Thunderbirds, Lee joined the NCAA team North Carolina State Wolfpack. He put up regular high-scoring performances in his two years with the team, and started in every game in his first season, averaging 8.4 points per game and shooting over 60% from the field.
With the Wolfpack, Lee made it to the 2015 NCAA Division 1 championship – aka March Madness. Seven points from him helped NC State eliminate first-seed Villanova Wildcats from the tournament. They would later lose in the regional semi-finals to Louisville.
After briefly playing for the Surrey Scorchers in the UK, Lee joined the St John’s Edge in 2017. It was a great NBL Canada debut season for both Edge, who reached the Central Division finals, and for Lee, who averaged 10.7 points and 6.1 rebounds.
His efficiency and consistent high-scoring saw him earn more and more minutes, eventually becoming part of the Edge's starting lineup. Having established himself in St. John's, he will now be looking to make the most of his abilities in the new NBL Canada season.
